Puppy tips

Puppy!!!! You've never seen veterinary staff move so fast as when one someone says there is a new puppy in the clinic!

Tips for your new puppy

Top priority:

- Introducing your puppy to new people, noises, objects and many other situations in a positive way.

Fear free pets has a GREAT puppy bingo link here: https://fearfreepets.com/puppy-kitten-socialization-bingo/

The puppy socialization window (when their brain is forming these pathways) is between 6-16 weeks. Let your puppy see bikes, traffic cones, people of all different appearances and scenery.

I do *not* recommend dog parks until they are 16 weeks old and their immune system is fully developed.

Book Recommendation:

  • Perfect Puppy in 7 Days by Dr. Sophia Yin, DVM.

    Puppy Socials:

It is important our pups learn how interact with other dogs in a safe and healthy manner.

Puppy socials are like kindergarten, and all pups should be the same age/phase of their immune system.

Get established with a vet! Even if your pup doesn't need anything now, you may in the future and being an established patient means you don't have to go looking for a veterinarian during an emergency.

  • Most important of all, take lots and lots of photos and send them to me!
